5 Ways to Cool Your Mouth after Eating Spicy Food


You’ve eaten too much spicy food, and now your mouth feels like the inside of a volcano that’s about to erupt with lava, molten rock, and intense heat that threatens to burn you from the inside out. How can you cool down your mouth?



1- Drink Water


Water is the best way to cool your mouth after eating spicy food. It helps dilute the spices and wash them away. Drink plenty of water before and during your meal to help prevent the spice from getting too intense. If you can't handle the heat, drink milk or eat yogurt, which can help soothe your mouth. Eating bread or crackers can also help absorb some of the spice. Finally, avoid drinking alcohol, which will only make the burning sensation worse.


2- Eat Cold Foods


  • There are a few things you can do to help ease the pain of burning in your mouth caused by spicy food Using cold foods as a remedy is a good idea.


  • Ice cream, sorbet, and frozen yogurt are all fantastic. The cold temperature will ease the burning sensation, but avoid anything too sweet that could make it worse.


  •  One of my favorite ways to cool down after eating spicy food is drinking milk. It may seem odd, but milk actually works because it contains casein protein, which has a cooling effect on your body.


3- Ice Cubes and Mint Leaves


 Another option is to suck on a sugar cube. The sugar will quickly dissolve in your mouth, providing a quick cool-down effect that's similar to what you would get from ice cubes. Make sure you use white sugar other forms of sugar will cause extra discomfort as they stick in your teeth and may even be harmful for sensitive teeth. 


Plain water can also cool your mouth off, but it doesn't last as long or taste as good as an ice cube or mint leaves. Ice cubes and mint leaves are a great way to cool your mouth after eating spicy food. Simply place a few ice cubes in your mouth and suck on them until they melt. You can also add a few mint leaves to the ice cubes for an extra cooling effect.


4- Breathe Through Your Nose


The first step is to take a deep breath through your nose. This will help stop the burning sensation in your mouth by clearing out some of the spice. You may also want to close your eyes and focus on taking slow, deep breaths until the pain subsides.


 At first, breathing through your nose may seem impossible, especially if you start coughing uncontrollably. If you find yourself struggling, try drinking some water or even sucking on a few ice cubes. These will help reduce any residual heat and clear your airways so that you can breathe normally again. 


In some cases, it may be a good idea to drink a glass of milk or eat yogurt. Dairy products have a natural cooling effect in your mouth that can help balance out any lingering spice left behind by peppers and other spices. Once you’ve cleared your mouth of spicy foods, take another deep breath and get back to eating spicy foods with abandon.


5- Drink Milk


Drinking milk is a classic way to soothe your mouth after eating something spicy. The milkfat and proteins work together to create a barrier between your taste buds and the capsaicin, which is the compound that makes peppers hot. Plus, the calcium in milk can help neutralize the acids that contribute to the burning sensation. Just be sure to drink whole milk, since skim and low-fat varieties won’t have as much fat to coat your mouth.
